The typical symptoms of Vitiligo are exemplified as white patches on the skin normally occurred in areas where vulnerability to sun is most common. These patches may be on the face, lips, hands, arms, and feet. Some other areas may also have white spots such as around the mouth, retina of the eye, nostrils, navel, the armpits and groin, and genitals. Apart from white patches on the skin, symptoms of Vitiligo can include untimely graying of the scalp hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, and beard. A loss of color inside the mouth may be observed in patients with dark skin.

Vitiligo symptoms can follow certain patterns for their occurrence. The symptoms usually come out in one of the three patterns. The first pattern is focal pattern in which the depigmentation is confined to one or only a few areas. Another type of pattern is found in patients known as segmental pattern. In this pattern, white patches appear on only one side of their bodies. However, the pattern shown by majority of patients living with Vitiligo is generalized pattern in which depigmentation takes place on different parts of the body.

You can’t say anything for sure regarding the spread of the disease. A lot of dissimilarities have been found with this issue. In some patients, the white patches remain static and don’t spread to other parts. On the other hand, in most instances, Vitiligo will spread to other areas of the body with the passage of time. For some people, the disease will spread at a snail's pace over many years, whereas the spreading will happen rapidly in some others. A number of patients have also reported of more white spots after physical and mental trauma.

Benoquin (Monobenzone) is popularly used to treat Vitiligo. It functions by permanently eliminating melanin from the healthy skin situated around the affected skin with Vitiligo. This negates the effect of white patches and renders the skin a more uniform look. As Monobenzone discolors the skin for good, it should not be used for cosmetic bleaching purpose. You should not use Benoquin for other depigmentation disorders like freckles, sun spots, age spots, and skin discoloration due to perfumes, hormonal therapy, pregnancy, or skin trauma.

Benoquin topical cream is applied evenly on the skin only. A thin layer of the drug is enough to cover your normal pigmented skin. Apply the cream 2 to 3 times a day for at least 3-4 months regularly. Ensure that the medicine does not get into your eyes or interior part of your mouth or nose. If it happens, use plenty of water for flushing it out.

You can derive full benefit from Benoquin (Monobenzone) only when you continue it for four months habitually. Once you get an even skin color, you can then use it more sparingly (just twice a week) just to maintain your new complexion. Don’t hesitate to take the advice of your doctor if your condition does not improve or declines further after 4 months.
